Due to the increase in traffic in and out of Hilo, changes to departure and drop-off times will be made effective Monday, August 22nd. A School Messenger message will be sent tonight and an updated bus schedule will be posted on the transportation website. We have been experiencing delays in our morning and afternoon runs and are looking into possible causes: 1) New Bus Contractor and new driver's, 2) Increased traffic on roads, 3) Start of School Year, etc. Another factor for our Hilo Routes is that they are double-run, so any delay with 1st route will affect 2nd route.
We will continue to monitor flow of buses and will make necessary changes if needed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
As we enter into the weekend after a busy first two days of school I want to share some facts:
8/4/16 - 8/5/16, Transportation processed 21 requests to Add, Cancel, or change Ridership.
8/1/16 - 8/3/16, Transportation processed 29 requests to Add, Cancel, or change Ridership.
7/6/16 - 7/29/16, Transportation processed 73 requests to Add, Cancel, or change Ridership.
7/1/16 - 7/7/16, Transportation mailed 724 bus passes.
Cancelling Bus Service. Parents who wish to withdraw their child from bus service must notify the Transportation Department in writing (mail, fax, email) and return the bus pass.
If you have already submitted payment but have recently cancelled bus transportation: please know the processing time may take up to 4 weeks for charges to be reversed.
If you have cancelled bus transportation but have yet to submit your FACTS payment: the fiscal office suggests paying for all other FACTS billing charges except the bus transportation fees listed, until charges can be credited.
Changes made to the 2016-2017 Bus Schedule to reflect new Evening Bus Schedule for all routes. Evening Bus will now service Bus Riders on Monday thru Thursday (four nights/week). Evening Bus Service will start on Thursday, August 4th.
As with all Evening Buses, this service is provided (only on select routes) for current Middle and High School bus riders participating in after-school activities or sports. Riders that have been awarded a PM (afternoon) or RT (round-trip) bus pass may utilize this service at no additional cost. Times are listed on the Bus Schedule (page 2).
