Kamehameha Schools Hawaii provides bus transportation to and from school for approximately 850 K-12 Students during the regular school year and approximately 700 K-12 Students as part of our Summer programs. Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i works closely with Robert's Hawaii to provide student transportation.
Bus applications for the new school year must be submitted by the deadline date in April. The Transportation Manager or designee shall establish criteria for the selection of students and may consider various factors as appropriate to the particular campus. Applications received after the deadline date will be placed on a wait list status and filled as space becomes available (KS Policy 200.4.03, Student Request for Bus Transportation). Please remember there is a NON-REFUNDABLE ANNUAL SERVICE FEE for bus service.
Zonar Systems RFID Bus Pass and Ground Traffic Control
Since 2013, Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i has been using Zonar Student and Fleet tracking system. The bus pass is a RFID (radio frequency ID) powered by Zonar that provides information to the transportation department to track and monitor student ridership in a safe and non-intrusive way. To scan the RFID card, students must touch the card to the reader on the bus. Information is then sent to secure website that tracks the time and location where the students get on or off the bus.
Ground Traffic Control gives the transportation department real-time visibility into school bus operations from any web-enabled device and alerting functions so we can make better decisions for our campus.
K-5 One-to-One Release at Drop-Off
“K-5 one-to-one Release at Drop-Off” Policy applies to students who ride the following bus routes in the afternoon:
R5-E Prince Kuhiō Plaza
R6-E Wong Stadium
Bus drivers will not release an elementary student from the bus until a parent or authorized adult is present at the bus door. If no one is there to meet the elementary keiki, he or she will be returned to the campus and placed in the YMCA after-school program located at Hāʻaeamahi Dining Hall. Fees are listed in the Student Handbook.
Evening Activities/Sports Buses
Provided (only for selected routes) for Middle and High School bus riders participating in after-school or sports activities. Riders that are issued a PM (afternoon) or RT (round-trip) bus pass may utilize this extra service. Days and times are listed on respective bus schedules. RFID Bus Pass scanning procedures apply.
Notice of Use of Video and Audio Recording Devices in Buses
For the safety of the passengers and bus driver, buses utilized by Kamehameha Schools Hawaii will have video cameras installed that also record oral communications in the interior of the buses.
