The R2 Honoka’a Bus experienced engine trouble at the Honoka’a Bus Stop. The Waimea Elementary/Middle and the Waimea HS Bus will pick up the students from Pa’auilo to Laupahoehoe. Roberts is sending another bus from Keaau to pick up students between Honomu and Papaikou. Please expect delays with all Hamakua Coast routes.
Our R1EM Waimea Bus experienced engine trouble, near the Wainaku Scenic Point. The R1H Waimea Bus was able pick up all of our riders. All riders (K-12) will be dropped off at the Hawaiian Home Lands Office location.
ETA for our Waimea Bus is presently at 5:00 pm. :Due to safety concerns, balloons are not allowed on our school buses. Students can either deflate the balloon or having someone else take it with a personal vehicle. We’ve had issues where loose balloons interfere with the bus drivers vision and students have been observed inhaling the helium while on our school bus. Here are a few Guidelines at Bus Stops:
We are currently aware of the road closure on Hwy 19, at the Kapue Bridge (see below CD Msg). Afternoon buses will depart campus around 3:10 pm, and should not be affected the road closure. We will continue to monitor the Civil Defense reports, and notify everyone if there will be any changes.
"This is a Civil Defense message for Monday, September 10 at 8:00 in the morning. The Hawaii Department of Transportation reports that today from 12 pm – 3 pm, the Kapue Bridge on Highway 19 (mile marker 6.5) will be closed for emergency repairs. Motorists will be detoured to Papaikou Mill Road. Any vehicle over 10 tons (20,000 lbs) will not be able to use the detour, but can use Saddle Road as an alternate route." 5:32am Both lanes on Hwy 19 between MM52 & 53, Lakeland area are now OPEN.
4:15am HPD reported Hwy 19 was closed due to fallen tree. Crews were headed to location. At 7:41 pm, we were notified that our Waimea Evening Bus experienced engine trouble at the Laupahoehoe Minit Stop. A substitute bus was dispatched from the Kea'au Base Yard and remaining riders were picked up around 8:33 pm. Bus is continuing its route, stopping at Pa'auilo, Honoka'a and Waimea.
Correction to Wednesday Bus Schedule: Middle School dismissal on Wednesday's is now 1:50pm.
Due to a large number of late requests, late invitee's, the Transportation Office is experiencing a backlog in processing. As of 8/7/18, Maile has processed 111 late applications and over 90 requests for changes to routes and passes.
